MEP Project Engineer

The MEP Project Engineer is responsible for managing the engineering, execution, coordination, commercial administration, testing and commissioning of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing works throughout the project lifecycle. The role combines technical site delivery with commercial oversight to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with contractual obligations.

The position ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with contractual, technical, and statutory requirements while contributing to cost control, variation management, and operational efficiency

In addition to project execution, role actively supports retrofit work, and after-sales service integration, ensuring alignment between project delivery and long-term maintenance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Project Execution & Site Management
    • Manage and supervise day-to-day MEP construction activities.
    • Ensure works are executed as per approved drawings, specifications and project requirements.
    • Coordinate manpower, materials, equipment and subcontractors.
    • Monitor project progress against approved baseline schedule.
    • Support project delivery planning and work sequencing.
    • Identify execution risks and implement corrective measures.
    • Coordinate closely with service and maintenance teams for smooth transition from project to AMC/DLP phase.
    • Ensure site readiness for service accessibility, maintenance clearance, and lifecycle support.
    • Monitor and control material wastage and site losses.
  2. Engineering & Technical Coordination
    • Review contract drawings, specifications and technical documents.
    • Prepare and review:
      • Shop drawings
      • Material submittals
      • Method statements
      • RFIs
      • Technical proposals
      • As-built documentation
    • Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces and resolve technical clashes.
    • Support value engineering and technical optimization initiatives.
    • Ensure compliance with codes, standards and authority requirements.
    • Review designs with focus on maintainability, serviceability, and energy efficiency.
    • Ensure selection of materials/equipment considering availability of spare parts and long-term service support.
  3. Construction Supervision
    • Supervise installation and execution of:
      • HVAC systems
      • Chilled water systems
      • Plumbing and drainage
      • Fire protection systems
      • Power and lighting systems
      • ELV/BMS interfaces
      • Plant room installations
      • Ensure installation complies with manufacturer recommendations and warranty requirements.
      • Verify proper testing provisions, access panels, and service clearances during installation.
    • Responsibilities include:

      • Installation sequencing
  4. Commercial Management & Contract Administration
    • Cost Control & Budget Monitoring
      • Monitor project costs against approved budgets.
      • Track material, labor and subcontract cost performance.
      • Support cost forecasting and budget control.
      • Identify cost saving opportunities without compromising quality.
      • Coordinate with stores and procurement for cost-effective material utilization.
      • Monitor and control site material consumption vs BOQ quantities.
      • Support AMC cost estimation inputs during project stage.
    • Quantity Surveying / Measurement
      • Review and verify quantities executed.
      • Support quantity take-offs and re-measurements.
      • Verify subcontractor measurements and progress claims.
      • Assist in preparation of interim valuations.
    • Variations & Claims Management
      • Identify scope changes and variation opportunities.
      • Prepare technical and commercial inputs for variation submissions.
      • Support pricing of change orders and additional works.
      • Maintain variation logs and follow up approvals.
      • Assist in evaluation of extension of time (EOT) related impacts.
    • Contract Administration
      • Review scope obligations under contracts and subcontracts.
      • Monitor contractual compliance.
      • Support administration of subcontract packages.
      • Review subcontractor progress and payment certifications.
      • Support preparation and review of notices, correspondence and commercial records.
  5. Procurement & Supply Chain Support
    • Support preparation of material requisitions.
    • Review technical and commercial offers.
    • Participate in vendor and subcontractor evaluations.
    • Coordinate procurement schedules with construction requirements.
    • Support expediting of long lead materials.
    • Monitor procurement status against project schedule.
    • Ensure procurement aligns with approved vendor list and service support capability.
    • Coordinate with store team for inventory planning of critical spare parts.
  6. Planning & Progress Control
    • Prepare short-term and look-ahead programs.
    • Support project planning using Primavera / MS Project.
    • Monitor earned progress and productivity.
    • Participate in progress review meetings.
    • Prepare weekly/monthly progress reports.
    • Support recovery planning when required.
    • Align project schedule with procurement lead times and commissioning requirements.
    • Monitor critical path activities related to MEP systems installation.
  7. QA/QC Responsibilities
    • Ensure works comply with project QA/QC procedures.
    • Coordinate inspections and approvals.Review ITPs, checklists and quality records.
    • Manage punch lists and defect closure.
    • Support preparation of handover dossiers.
    • Ensure documentation is aligned with handover and AMC requirements.
    • Verify completeness of asset tagging and system identification.
  8. Testing, Commissioning & Handover
    • Coordinate pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
    • Support TAB and integrated systems testing.
    • Review commissioning reports.
    • Coordinate final handover documentation.
    • Support training and O&M handover.
  9. Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with project HSE standards.
    • Support risk assessments and permit controls.
    • Promote safe execution practices.
    • Participate in audits and safety inspections.
    • Ensure compliance with Qatar Civil Defense (QCDD) and local authority requirements.
  10.  After-Sales, AMC & DLP Coordination
    • Support smooth handover to AMC/service teams after project completion.
    • Ensure all systems are handed over with complete documentation, O&M manuals, and asset registers.
    • Coordinate during Defects Liability Period (DLP) for rectification works.
    • Provide technical support for AMC contracts and retrofit works.
    • Identify opportunities for AMC conversion and service contracts from completed projects.
  11. Additional Responsibilities
    • Support tender reviews and bid clarifications.
    • Assist in estimation for change requests and new opportunities.
    • Participate in value engineering proposals.
    • Monitor material wastage and cost impacts.
    • Support cash flow forecasting related to project progress.
    • Assist in preparation of procurement comparisons.
    • Review of subcontract variations and claims.
    • Contribute to margin protection strategies.
    • Must be willing to work across projects, AMC sites, and emergency service support when required
    • Should be capable of handling multiple small and medium projects simultaneously
    • Strong coordination required with Contracting Division, Service Division, and Clients.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Educational Qualification:
    • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical / electrical engineering.
    • Additional commercial exposure.
    • PMP or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Professional Experiences:
    • 5–10 years in MEP construction projects.
    • Experience in both technical execution and commercial administration.
    • Experience with contractor-side project delivery preferred.
    • Qatar project experience preferred.
    • Experience in AMC, maintenance, or retrofit projects preferred
    • Exposure to HVAC systems (Chillers, VRF, Split, PAC, DX systems)
  • Licenses/Certifications:
