We are seeking an experienced Refrigeration Troubleshooting Technician who is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining all types of refrigeration systems, including cold rooms, walk-in freezers, chillers, display cabinets, and other commercial/industrial refrigeration equipment. The role requires hands-on expertise in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and control issues to ensure optimal system performance and energy efficiency, ensuring smooth operations, and minimizing equipment downtime, including both preventive and corrective maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and guide a team of refrigeration technicians in day-to-day operations, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for all refrigeration systems, including walk-in chillers, freezers, dairy chillers, bottle coolers, and ice machines.
- Diagnose complex technical issues and provide solutions for breakdowns and performance-related problems.
- Maintain accurate records of spare parts inventory, coordinate procurement needs, and ensure critical spares are always available.
- Perform diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of refrigeration systems and components (compressors, condensers, evaporators, valves, controls, etc.).
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance of refrigeration units in accordance with service schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
- Check refrigerant levels, pressure readings, superheat/subcooling, and identify gas leaks using appropriate tools.
- Carry out system evacuation, charging, and performance testing to ensure correct operation.
- Inspect and calibrate temperature and pressure controls.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical control circuits, thermostats, contactors, and relays associated with refrigeration systems.
- Maintain detailed service reports and log sheets for each assigned unit.
- Ensure proper recovery and handling of refrigerants as per environmental and safety regulations.
- Assist in commissioning new refrigeration systems and testing their performance.
- Coordinate with supervisors and clients for service feedback and recommendations.
- Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to company policies, safety guidelines, and environmental regulations.
- Support junior technicians during troubleshooting and maintenance works.
- Participate in on-call and emergency service schedules as required.
- Keep updated on the latest refrigeration technologies and service tools.
- Adhere to the company’s IMS, Quality, and HSE policies at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or operations manager.
- Any other duties & responsibilities are assigned by the reporting Engineer/Manager.
Accountability
- Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles and components.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues independently.
- Experience with various refrigerants (R22, R410A, R134a, R407C, R404A, etc.).
- Familiarity with chillers, cold rooms, walk-in freezers, and refrigerated display units.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Basic English reading and writing proficiency.
- Physically fit to work in cold and outdoor environments.
Qualification/Technical Skills:
Educational Qualification: Diploma in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning / B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience: Minimum 5 – 8 years of hands-on experience in troubleshooting and repairing refrigeration systems, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory role.
Specialized Trainings:
- Strong technical knowledge of walk-in chillers, dairy chillers, bottle freezers, ice cube machines, and related systems.
- Expertise in refrigerant handling, recovery, and system evacuation.
- Ability to read and interpret refrigeration schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
- Skilled in using diagnostic tools such as gauges, leak detectors, and multimeters.
- Good understanding of electrical and mechanical aspects of refrigeration systems.
- Basic computer literacy for documentation and reporting.
- Certification in refrigerant handling (F-gas or equivalent).
- Experience with PLC-based electronic control systems.
- Ability to work independently and handle on-call service requirements.
