The Embassy of the Republic of Turkey has recently sent its envoy to Almuftah Group, one of the biggest multi-business groups in Qatar, to discuss the expansion of commercial interests between Turkey and Qatar, in a recent visit at the company’s head office in Doha.
At the business meeting, Burak Güreşci, the Commercial Councilor of the Turkish Embassy in Qatar, signed a memorandum of agreement with Ibrahim Almuftah, Managing Director of Almuftah Group. The trade negotiations included discussions on further boosting the presence of Turkish consumer brands into the market, including in Almuftah Group’s distribution channels.
During the signing event, Mr. Güreşci expressed that ‘as Qatar further expands its trading opportunities elsewhere, we from Turkey are keen on tapping into this opportunity to explore other trading possibilities with Qatar, which include increasing our presence in the Qatari market through various distribution channels such as Almuftah Group’s retail outlets. Indeed today we are looking forward to working with Almuftah Group.”
For his part, Mr. Ibrahim Almuftah said “as Qatar steadily reaches its medium- to long-term goals (FIFA World Cup 2022; Qatar Vision 2030), we are making sure that Almuftah Group is riding in the waves of success such projects are bringing to the national psyche; thus the expansion of trade with our neighbors such as Turkey and further afield will play an important role in increasing the volume of trade–and Almuftah Group, as in the previous decades, will tap into this exciting potential.”
The commercial talks are part of the two country’s efforts to enhance trade and economic cooperation. Qatar has been continually enhancing its bilateral trade with other countries and markets especially in light of the economic embargo imposed by some members of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
In addition to natural gas, Qatar exports mostly petroleum derivatives to Turkey, including processed materials such as aluminum and plastic products. Turkey’s trade volume to Qatar has increased to more than 90 percent since 2017, led by the export of mineral sector, electrical and chemical commodities, as well as the garments sector.
QIIB’s newest branch was formally opened at The Mall in Al Hilal by bank chairman and managing director Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah al-Thani yesterday.
The branch opening, QIIB said, is part of its plan to expand locally and reorganise its branch network to cater to the ever-increasing customer base and meet their growing needs.
The opening ceremony was attended by QIIB board members, dignitaries and other senior executives.
Sheikh Dr Khalid urged employees of the new branch to provide services to customers at a level that matches the other branches in terms of quality and speed.
He stressed on the importance of maintaining customer loyalty with products and services that suit their needs, in the light of the highest standards QIIB has set for servicing its customers.
He expressed satisfaction at the “outstanding” results achieved by QIIB in terms of reorganising its branch network. Key to reorganising the QIIB branch network is customer convenience. The new QIIB branch is located on the first floor of The Mall complex (Gate No 7).
Its location has been carefully chosen in view of the importance of Al Hilal, which has many commercial establishments besides residential areas.
The new branch is spacious and spots a modern design. The business hours suit customers with extended time during morning and evening hours. Adequate parking facilities have been provided at the complex to ensure that customers find convenience in visiting the branch.
QIIB chief executive officer Dr Abdulbasit Ahmad al-Shaibei said, “We are implementing an expansion strategy, locally in Qatar, with one main priority — meeting the expectations of our customers. Strengthening our presence in prime locations such as malls, which are attractive destinations of different categories of our clients, helps us achieve this goal.
“As you can see, we are moving ahead with plans that we have announced previously to expand our presence in vibrant commercial centres, where extended business hours during the morning and evening are a distinctive feature. Also, we can provide various services under one roof, which means our customers can save precious time and efforts,” he noted.
Dr al-Shaibei said, “The QIIB branch at The Mall is the fifth such facility to be set up in commercial centres. This is in line with the opening of QIIB branches at Ezdan Al Gharafa Mall, Mall of Qatar, Doha Festival City Mall and City Center Mall. This new branch will serve a wide segment of customers living in the vicinity of The Mall at Hilal.”
Dr al-Shaibei assured that “QIIB expansion plans will continue in the period ahead. We provide our clients access to modern banking services and products in the most efficient manner. In a short while, we will be inaugurating a new branch at the Ezdan Mall in Al Wakrah.”
In parallel, QIIB continues to develop its alternative banking channels such as mobile banking, Internet banking, retail and corporate banking, as well as the development and expansion of the bank’s nation-wide ATM network.
The investment in these channels is a continuous strategy because they are of great importance.
The Mall branch operates from Saturday to Thursday, from 9.30am to 2.30pm and from 3.30pm to 9pm. On Fridays, the branch will be open for business from 4pm to 9pm.
